That was the last time he was ever seen. Whereas, Francys was found by another climber couple, Ian Woodall and his wife, O’Dowd, while Francys was dying because of fatigue and freezing cold. She asked them for help but since there was nothing that they could do and the weather was getting really bad, they left her and started moving on. 3. Laurie, I have seen that same photo all over YouTube by some pretty credible sources citing it as Hannelore. Are you a mountaineer or a photojournalist who is very familiar with Everest? I am asking you sincerely. I am not trolling you or being rude. I'm wondering which source to trust, them or you. One source was BBC, and another was Outside Mag.

  6. This is very poorly written. Not only is the style of writing extremely amateurish and badly executed, the author also has several facts wrong.

The most glaring of these is that Ian Woodall and Cathy O'Dowd did NOT carry on climbing and 'reach the top'.
When they found Francys they abandoned their attempt to the summit even though they were 1000 feet away and would certainly have made it. They stayed with Francys, giving her oxygen and trying to assist her for as long as possible- until their own oxygen was depleted to a level that became dangerous and they simply had no option but to head back down. They did everything they could to help her and she haunted them to the degree that Ian went back 9 years later with the sole purpose of moving her body from view. They most definitely didn't just check her over, decide that nothing could be done and then carry on to the summit.

Several other pieces of misinformation and glossed over facts in this post too. Would advise anyone reading to research the names in this list elsewhere for accuracy.
